Capital City Stampede PRCA Rodeo

Some of PRCA’s greatest cowboys and cowgirls will descend upon Pinnacle Bank Arena on May 15-16, 2015 for the Capital City Stampede PRCA Rodeo, presented by The Fort. When the dust settles at this action-packed event, some of the toughest competitors in the United States will ride away with a total cash payout of nearly $50,000. 

The professional rodeo will feature some of the nation’s top rodeo athletes from 16 states and Canada; some of the best livestock on the circuit; and seven championship events each night including bareback riding, saddle bronc, tie-down roping, steer wrestling, team roping, WPRA barrel racing and bull riding. 

Some of the elite contestants participating are from Texas, Colorado, and three from Nebraska including 71 year-old June Holeman from Arcadia, Nebraska.

Annually, the PRCA sanctions about 600 of the most elite multiple-event rodeos on the continent, in 37 states and three Canadian provinces. The PRCA-sanctioned rodeos vary widely by locale. The size, shape, perimeter and roof/open top of an arena, as well as the chute configuration, greatly affect times for timed events and, to a lesser extent, scores for roughstock events. The differences are so significant that some timed-event cowboys own different horses for different types of arenas. For that reason, the fairest way to measure cowboys’ success in competition across the varied settings is by earnings.

“World Champion” is the most coveted title in ProRodeo. Based on money won during the regular season, the Justin Boots Playoffs and Championships, and the PRCA Xtreme Bulls Tour, the top 15 contestants in bareback riding, steer wrestling, team roping (headers and heelers), saddle bronc riding, tie-down roping, barrel racing and bull riding qualify to compete at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (NFR) held every December since 1985 in Las Vegas. The Wrangler NFR is ProRodeo’s richest and most prestigious rodeo. The sport’s world champions are crowned at the conclusion of the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (NFR) based on total season earnings at PRCA rodeos across the continent, including monies earned at the Wrangler NFR. The PRCA crowns eight world titlists, each of whom receives a gold buckle and a specially crafted trophy saddle.

One-Armed Bandit
Capital City Stampede PRCA Rodeo will also feature John S. Payne, twelve time Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association (PRCA) “Specialty Act of the Year.” The notorious One Arm Bandit is from Shidler, Oklahoma. Since 1988, John Payne has thrilled rodeo fans around the world by riding a variety of good horses and mules in his full throttle exhibition of genuine cowboy skills with longhorn steers, buffalo, and wild horses. Payne's son, Lynn, will showcase buffalo in an exhibition culminating with buffalo atop his trailer. For younger children, that dream of being a rodeo competitor is a dream come true. Younger kids can compete in recreational mutton busting each night during intermission.
